MS WEST VIRGINIA SENIOR AMERICA 2019, SHERRI McGHIE
CONGRATULATIONS to SHERRI McGhie, Ms West Virginia Senior America 2019!
Sherri McGhie was born and raised in New York City. She is single and resides in Leisure Village West, an active adult community in Manchester Township.
Sherri attended Marymount Manhattan College, studying history and political science, and, later The Katharine Gibbs School. She enjoyed a long career as a legal and executive assistant working in various fields, including publishing, mall management, accounting and law firms.
Sherri has been a small business owner for decades. First as owner and Executive Director of the Miss Big Apple Pageant in New York. She founded the pageant in 1981 and ran it for 12 years. She also created the Miss International New Yorker Pageant; a celebration of New York’s rich cultural diversity. In the 1990’s, she founded Cheri Cosmetics.
Photography is both a favorite hobby and a sideline for Sherri. She is rarely seen without her camera, photographing friends, family, pageants and social events.
Her interests include traveling, especially cruising; cooking and watching cooking competitions; shopping and reading – “So many books; so little time” is a favorite quote.
Sherri firmly believes that learning should be a life-long pursuit. She recently became a certified personal trainer and plans to make fitness and health coaching a second career after retiring.
Sherri began studying voice in 2004 and continues her studies with a voice teacher in New York. She loves belting out Broadway showtunes, oldies and country. She has appeared in Community Theater productions of Thoroughly Modern Millie, Beauty and The Beast and Cabaret, and holds the title of Shore Senior Idol.
Sherri frequently performs at venues around the state, including 55+ communities, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Sherri is enjoying her year as Ms. West Virginia Senior America and plans to make the most of this exciting time, “It goes by so fast!”
